Black Lives Matter supporting fast-fashion giant Boohoo and its suppliers are facing an import ban from the United States over allegations that the British-based company employs slave labour.
During the height of the Black Lives Matter unrest in the U.S. and the UK last summer, Boohoo’s social media account took up the Hollywood trend of posting an image of a black square alongside the hashtag #blackouttuesday in supposed solidarity with the Marxist BLM movement.
Just one month prior, however, the company was embroiled in a scandal over the use of alleged slave labour in its factories in the industrial British city of Leicester. Boohoo denies the claims.
Stafford supervisors voted 4â3 on Tuesday to downzone nearly 90,000 acres of agricultural land in the county from one home per 3 acres to one home per 6 acres.
Downzoning has been on the supervisorsâ radar for years and four months ago, Supervisor Gary Snellings hinted at a compromise.
âI think we can work something out that will be satisfactory to everyone without providing 10-acre lots,â said Snellings.
Supervisors Tinesha Allen, Tom Coen and Cindy Shelton each voted against the measure, which was introduced Tuesday night by Supervisor Meg Bohmke.
âI want you to know that I donât take this vote lightly,â said Bohmke. âBut the county cannot sustain the infrastructure cost in the rural areas, and the citizens in the urban services area are going to pay for all these costs.â

Eater Houston, Cacti Agave Spiked Seltzer, made from ‘premium’ Mexican blue agave, will hit shelves in the US on 15 March.
Inspired by the rapper’s love of Tequila, the LA-made drink, housed in 12oz, 16oz and 25oz cans, comes in three flavours: lime, pineapple, and strawberry.
“Cacti is something I’m really proud of and have put a ton of work into. Me and the team really went in, not only on getting the flavour right, but on everything from the actual beverage and the can concept, to the packaging and how it is presented to the world,” Scott said.

While the state Department of Labor has not yet finalized the full-year unemployment rate average for Cayuga County for 2021, it will most certainly show the first year in which the jobless rate increased since 2012.
Pandemic-driven shutdowns drove unemployment higher in Cayuga County every month from March through December. The rate peaked in April at 15.3%, the highest mark for any month dating back to 1990, when the department began posting online county-level statistics.
